photos while walking in the suburbs

I felt a need to refresh my vision, to see places with lots of space, where I imagined the sound of lawnmowers, barking dogs and larks over distant fields.

photos of places between dark damp hills

I took a few photos in daylight too, just to get a sense of this place… you can see more detail HERE

photos of places between dark damp hills

I continued on with my search for life in the secluded dark streets of Mitchelltown, Wellington. Some times I heard voices and footsteps but mostly I saw lights from various windows. I imagined there might be someone watching television or listening to a familiar tune on an old gramophone.

photos of dark winding streets

This weekend I reacquainted myself with the streets over Aro Valley where the sun does hardly shine and at night one can hear the hooting of owls (we call them moreporks) as well as the whining sound of cars in low gears

photos of a typical wellington suburb

After a week away from flickr I knew it was time to refresh myself by going a little further in my hunt for photographs. So I got into the car and went over to Newtown to see if it looked any different to my own neighborhood

photos to see how things look at various times of the day

I don't even know why I take photographs, maybe they are small markers that will possibly stick with me of places and things that I see and wonder about. night is best on black

The weekend consisted of continuous horizontal rain. The only opportunity for a walk with the camera was when the rain stopped briefly on Sunday night So the postings this week are some B sides, photos that I felt unsure of plus some from Sunday night.

testing my boundaries of good taste

some lessons I'm trying to learn on making bad photos

Some years back when I was around 23 years old I purchased a Polaroid camera and took a photo of my cat on the lawn. The photo came out of the front of the camera and a picture of a blurry grey blob on a background of green slowly appeared. I was charmed by the result. Soon after I purchased an SLR camera and darkroom equipment. I then proceeded to try and make sharp detailed prints. I have started to think what is the point of this…. lightbox is tops for B&W
