powder room

powder room, originally uploaded by Lester Ralph Blair.

The thoughtful thing here is that a seat is provided attached to the wall, where one can wait to be picked up. Otherwise ones hair would be blown about in the wind.

Sometimes there is more than one photo, which is good, as you don't know when you may find another.

I think the walls just half painted, with just a touch of grafitti is rather nice. Even the puddle appears to be in just the right place.

city lodge

city lodge, originally uploaded by Lester Ralph Blair.

Around every corner there is a mystery, especially if it is a strange city. For me I know what is around the corner, I'm in my lunch break from work. I did not get my photo quota last weekend, it rained. So I am out fishing, hunting, digging as the week goes.

map of New Zealand

map of New Zealand, originally uploaded by Lester Ralph Blair.

Graffiti tends to be included in my photos mainly because it is just there, I don't have any particular view on it, though it can be rather good. I feel that this map of New Zealand is good, I like the idea of collage, and the setting of a car park with bits of card board lying around, just waiting for someone with a camera.

which has a view of gas flues at the city hospital. There were so many other vertical elements here to complete a picture, it was just a matter of standing in the right place, which is no different to arranging things on a canvas or a drawing pad. I think I have said this before, but it just comes to mind again.

hopper & 50 K.P.H.

hopper & 50 K.P.H., originally uploaded by Lester Ralph Blair.

Entering the borough of Patea there is a hopper. It was reason enough to stop the car, I liked the industrial look of it, that and a 50K sign, plus a row of trees on the ridge. It has the look of past prosperities, which is the look of rural and small town Taranaki.

Something new was better, or maybe these just do not go any more. Nothing looks particularly old, and they just keep making new and improved stuff, so whatever we bought a couple of years back already seems old, and we keep buying new stuff. Well that is my thoughts, but I was probably not thinking this at all when I took the picture.

amigos this way

amigos this way, originally uploaded by Lester Ralph Blair.

This is Newtown, Wellington, lot's of different cultures, cafés, restaurants, shops selling antiques, collectables, retro furniture. It is busy, old, run down, and I think colourful. I enjoyed a wander with the camera while my wife enjoyed browsing collectables.

This place did sell large ice creams, maybe they still do. Not so important now, but the big cone on the roof, set against the approaching storm clouds, that was worth stopping for.

really cheap hats & hand bags

When passing through this town, I almost always stop and walk the main street. It has always been a small town, though once, as I remember, it did have several book shops, clothes shops and banks as well. Only the pubs have stayed the same. Now the shops are either disused or become stores selling really cheap hats and hand bags. The scale of economics have changed this town, and it is interesting to photograph.

On the whole butchers seem to be bright cheerful people, as this sign implies. Possibly the day spent cutting up meat, one has to look on the bright side of life. I have also found that small towns have a tendency to erect large scale cow signs, as seen here main street and cow

Small towns have small signs advertising what one can do. This town is where I came from, and maybe the sign was there back then. Lichen is spreading over, it could do with some maintenance, The aeroplanes I guess are O.K.

Down this street you can dine out with cuisine from Thailand, Malaysia, China, India, Mexico, Turkey, Italy, France. I'm not sure what the above is, maybe it is New Zealand.

insulation tape & self portrait

I don't have any particular interest in electrical subjects, it's just that they are so colourful dangling there. Not any use now, just decoration, a bit like art I suppose. just something you like, for whatever reason.
